France looks on course to reach its ambitious target of 100 million visitors per year by 2020 after figures released by the UN show that a record 89 million tourists visited these shores in 2017 – an increase of six million on 2016.
Visitor numbers had suffered in recent years follow in a series of terror attacks in Paris and elsewhere across France in 2015 and 2016, but holidaymakers are now returning in their droves. The report from the UN's World Tourism Organisation shows that global tourism jumped 7% last year with France well ahead of second-placed Spain. With 82.3 [...]

Arriving to NiceArriving to Nice in the end of April was so far one of the best ideas we ever had: it's time when it's getting warmer, the lights seem to be so clear and all the city is already awake and in blossom. It's transition between off-season and summer: it's totally full of magic and new beginnings. We always try to choose a place that reflects the mood and spirit of our trip. Thinking of that and being fans of jazz we realised that Ellington Hotel matched us the best. We just came from Paris by train and found ourselves [...]

The French Riviera is a garden-lover's paradise, a sun-soaked horticultural heaven lined on its southern edge by the twinkling Mediterranean. We've all been there… deciding what we fancy for dinner and opening the fridge door only to find that one crucial ingredient is missing. The concept of the 24-hour supermarket has yet to reach these shores and French trading laws mean that not much is open on a Sunday, so there is often very little we can do. Technology is often the answer to these first world problems, and hot on the heels of the 24/7 baguette dispenser comes the automatic egg vending machine. Those with concerns for animal welfare should not worry, the hens are [...]

Candlemas and Shrove Tuesday are two occasions to enjoy Provencal recipes: Bugnes (Angel Wings), Carnival Fritters and Pancakes. In our families, Candlemas marks the end of the Christmas celebrations and has thus become the time to take down the nativity scenes set up two months earlier. Occurring forty days after the birth of Baby Jesus, Candlemas celebrates the purification of the Virgin Mary and the presentation of Jesus at the temple. In Provence, the tradition is to go and have a candle blessed, before returning home with the lit candle. […]Cet article We're celebrating Candlemas and Shrove Tuesday! est apparu [...]

A couple of months ago a friend of a friend offered me something I could not refuse: to fly!I had tried paragliding once before over an incredibly beautiful beach in the Northeast of Brazil, but to fly over the country side of France would certainly be a completely different experience. My first instructions were to take a train to Villeneuve Loubet and wait for my ride at the station. Julien, then, picked me up and we drove up to Gréolières. We started climbing up the hill until this car passed us by and offered me a ride. That was when the adventure [...]
